BURJ AL ARAB

This spectacular 'seven star' resort rises up 321-metres from its own man-made island in the Arabian Sea. It is connected to its sister property, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel by a 280-metre bridge and whilst guests are Burj al Arab invited to take full advantage of both properties, why would they ever want to leave the luxurious confines of Burj al Arab? The resort truly is a tribute to intricate craftsmanship, constructed throughout with only the finest materials and all of its accommodation comprising luxurious one, two or three-bedroom suites. Indeed, most of the rooms are arranged over two floors linked by spiral staircases, their sheer opulence complemented by technology that does everything from controlling the plasma 42" TV screens to closing the curtains on the floor-to-ceiling windows. Recreational facilities include the palatial Asawan Spa & Health Club with its two pools, fitness studio and eighteen treatment rooms, whilst dining means a choice between European cuisine high up on the 27th floor or seafood in a restaurant reached by a simulated submarine voyage. MADINAT JUMEIRAH

Sister hotel to Burj al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah is an equally awe-inspiring development. Themed after the spirit and style of 'Old Arabia', this new property lies right in the heart of fashionable Jumeirah and boasts an enviable list of facilities including a kilometre of private beach, a comprehensive fitness facility, a madinat jumeirah luxurious Six Senses spa, a bustling retail souk with 75 shops, as well as 23 different restaurants, cafes and bars. And just in case that's not enough to keep you entertained, all the amenities of sister properties Burj al Arab, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the Wild Wadi Water Park, lie right on the doorstep. Water taxis transport guests throughout the resort to one of three different hotel options; the gateway property Mina A' Salam, the resort's centerpiece Al Qasr or the premier accommodation at Dar Al Masyaf. The first two are grand boutique hotels with water views, whilst the latter was inspired by the traditional summer courtyard homes of old Arabia - private butlers and the exclusive use of shared pools are just some of the refinements on offer here.

JUMEIRAH BEACH HOTEL

Constructed in the shape of a breaking wave, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel is an architectural icon and a dramatic landmark on the shores of the Arabian Gulf. An extensive and multi-faceted resort, it offers no jumeirah beach hotel less than twenty different international restaurants and bars, as well as sporting facilities for all age groups. Four swimming pools, 900-metres of private beach, a PADI dive centre, a tennis facility and a sports club are all on the list here, with youngsters also able to take advantage of the organized activities of their own club, as well as the family adventure playground and adjacent Wild Wadi Water Park. The 599 guest rooms and suites are all a decent size (at least 50 square metres) and boast unblemished views of the sea through their floor-to-ceiling windows. Those wanting all the sporting facilities, but a little more peace and quiet should consider the Arabian-style villas of the exclusive Beit Al Bahar section.

THE RITZ-CARLTON

This Mediterranean-style resort is a haven of class in the fashionable Jumeirah Beach area, the elegance synonymous with the Ritz-Carlton name spiced up with subtle hints of Arabia. It is relatively the ritz carlton, dubai small by Dubai standards (just 138 rooms and suites), but offers world-class recreational facilities including squash courts, tennis courts, an Oriental-style spa and a meandering swimming pool with waterfalls, water slides and swim-up bars. The classic guest rooms feature everything contemporary travellers love best, including fully-stocked honour bars, bathrobes and complimentary fruit baskets, with the six different menu presentations of the Club Lounge meaning guests hardly have time to discover the restaurants. But that would be a pity, as the Mediterranean specialities of the Splendido and European cuisine of La Baie are some of the best dining experiences in Dubai. It goes without saying that the service is outstanding.

ONE&ONLY ROYAL MIRAGE

Set on its own kilometre-long private beach, the One&Only one&only royal mirage Royal Mirage is a luxurious Arabian-style oasis of archways, domes, towers and courtyards. Actually three hotels in one, guests can check into the 246-roomed Palace, the 172-roomed Arabian Court or the 49-roomed Residence & Spa, happy in the knowledge that a wealth of recreational and dining possibilities are right on their doorstep. Sporting opportunities include anything from water sports and tennis courts to temperature-controlled swimming pools and an impressive Givenchy spa, whilst the long list of restaurants offer Mediterranean, Moroccan, Middle Eastern and Asian fare. AL MAHA DESERT RESORT & SPA

This highly-acclaimed desert resort is hidden away amidst a 225 sq.kms desert conservation reserve al maha desert resort & spa a 45-minutes drive from Dubai city. And whilst its luxurious accommodation and five-star facilities satisfy the demands of the most discerning traveller, it is primarily an opportunity to experience the culture and traditions of the Dubai desert. Wildlife like gazelles and horned oryx have gradually been re-introduced to the area, whilst activities such as falconry, camel trekking and nature walks occupy at least part of every day.
