Driving in
Antigua is an experience in itself! Car hire can be arranged through the
hotels, but really should be organised in advance during the peak holiday times. Driving is English-style on
the left-hand side and care should be taken not only to avoid the potholes and strategically-placed speed
bumps, but also the cows and goats that tend to stray onto the roads. The signposts have improved in recent
years, but it's advisable not to leave your hotel without directions and a map - although getting lost is
all part of the fun!
The approximate cost of car hire is US$50 per day, with discounts given for longer rentals.
On presentation of your current driver's license, a local licence will be issued at a cost of US$20 and
this is valid for 90 days.
